Starknet has launched its own staking program for STRK tokens, becoming the first Ethereum layer 2 network to enable staking, according to a November 26 statement shared with Cryptocellite.
The program aims to enable token holders to participate in securing the network while receiving rewards.
In this initial phase, token holders who have at least 20,000 STRK can participate directly on the network. Those with fewer tokens can delegate their holdings to validators. Both groups will face a mandatory 21-day lock-in period to cancel the lien, with rewards distributed proportionately based on the accumulated amount.
Meanwhile, Starknet is also encouraging participants to use staking-enabled wallets, paving the way for broader institutional and retail adoption.
StarkWare CEO Eli Ben Sasson said the launch of staking is an important moment for the network. He stressed that the staking initiative showcases the potential of blockchain to handle growing demand through pooling operations.
This achievement comes after Starknet’s last achievement, which is Processing 857 transactions per secondsetting the standard for other layer 2 solutions of Ethereum.
Bitwise joins early verification tool
According to November 26 advertisementa crypto investment company Bitwise He became one of the first validators of Starknet’s staking program.
the Bitcoin The ETF issuer said that Bitwise Onchain Solutions, known for its extensive experience in staking on Ethereum, will support staking on STRK. The company has provided a public validator address that enables STRK holders to easily delegate their tokens to the platform.
The company explained that it considers Starknet a suitable option for expanding its cadastral products into Layer 2 networks, citing the network’s role in advancing blockchain technology through innovations such as ZK-STARKs and its Cairo programming language.
Bitwise CTO Hong Kim He said:
“For years, Starknet has been pushing the boundaries of scalability and security with ZK-STARKs and its native smart contract language, Cairo. This network has given back so much to the Ethereum community while remaining committed to its vision of building a more accessible, transparent, and sovereign internet, the ‘Integrity Network.’”
