Bridgewater Associates, the firm founded by billion-dollar investor Ray Dalio, allegedly adheres to a strict set of workplace rules, which one former trainee says fostered an “intense” work culture that is “not for everyone”.
in article Writing for Business Insider, former intern Daria Rose, who appeared on Season 26 of “The Bachelor,” compared her time at Bridgewater Associates (which was from 2017 to 2018) to an episode of “Black Mirror.” She said staff were constantly monitored at a “microscopic level”, with staff using a strict rating system to rate each other’s behavior using colour-coded “points”.

“At each meeting, we each had an iPad in front of us that displayed a list of the names of everyone present. “Throughout the meeting, we would give people points for things like humility, composure, willingness to touch a nerve, openness, and assertiveness,” Rose wrote in the article.
She claims this system encouraged employees to be “more aware” when speaking up, in the hope of avoiding receiving a negative point. Eventually, the “bullet scores” will be reinforced on employees’ “baseball cards,” detailing the employee’s “strengths and weaknesses.”
She also claimed that everything was recorded at Bridgewater, so if staff wanted to know why they received a particular point, they could refer to a recording of their behaviour.
“One time, my friend threw her water bottle in the trash instead of recycling it. I don’t know who saw it, but someone gave it a negative point,” Rose wrote. “It made me realize, wow, that people really care on a microscopic level.” And they care about you.”
Rose also claims that Bridgewater employees have a pain button on their iPads that they can press when they “feel pain” during a particular situation at work and that they will later write a reflection on.
“Depending on the severity of the pain or what happened, sometimes we would do a diagnostic session to get to the root of the problem, as if someone’s ego was getting in the way of seeking help,” Rose wrote. “These sessions can be uncomfortable at times, but ultimately they are really helpful and lead to growth and improvement in daily operations.”

It is also claimed that gossip is banned in the office, as employees are not allowed to talk behind each other’s backs. This was a rule that Rose claims was “really valuable.”
“If you were talking about someone in a business context, you would have to send them this tape next,” Rose wrote. “When I got my full-time offer to join Bridgewater, my manager sent me a tape of their deliberations and I was able to honestly hear what they thought of me when I wasn’t in the room.”
Rose found this experience useful
Although Rose stated that the culture at Bridgewater was “intense,” she revealed that the experience was “transformative and eye-opening,” and helped prepare her for her time on “The Bachelor.”
“After a few years of working at Bridgewater, I participated in the Bachelor’s program,” Rose wrote. “People have checked me out and said a lot of terrible things. My experience at Bridgewater has prepared me to understand that everyone is going to have judgments or perceptions about you, but you don’t have to take them all into account.

Three of the most common tools employers use to track employees, and whose use has increased since the COVID pandemic in 2020, include location tracking, video monitoring, and document scanning, according to Data From StandOutCV.
