According to Bulova (and the historical record), Apollo 15 mission commander David Scott Bulova wore his Lunar Pilotwhich was a prototype of the brand, landed on the moon’s surface on August 2, 1971. The crystal on his NASA-issued Omega Speedmaster broke, so he used his own Bulova device instead. That watch was later sold at auction for $1.62 million. Bulova later released this commemorative model inspired by that watch. Its case size is 45mm for crystal-clear clarity. This model includes a black PVD coated stainless steel case and a NATO-style leather strap.
The dark black dial has three sub-dials, which is typical of a pilot’s chronograph. The sub-registers measure seconds, minutes and hours respectively. The hour markers have been finished with generous amounts of luminous paint so you can read the time in the dark. The phone also has a luminous coating for easy reading. The extra-long pushers on either side of the crown are designed for ease of use, even when wearing gloves, which is typical for astronauts in space.
The movement inside is a Bulova high frequency quartz regulated chronograph movement. They are extremely precise and built to last. In fact, this watch is much more accurate than most luxury mechanical Swiss watches, and you only have to change the battery every few years. It also has a water resistance of 50 metres, so you can freely walk under the rain shower or wash dishes without fear.
