Angel Reese’s blatant behavior toward Caitlin Clark sparks another messy argument

Over the weekend, Kaitlyn Clarke suffered another blunder. Angel Reese was the culprit this time. Once again, many came to Clark’s aid with accusations that fellow WNBA players were abusing her.

Again, Clark did not think the situation was a significant problem.

Kaitlyn Clark received a foul after she was hit in the head by Angel Reyes while driving to the basket in the third quarter of the Indiana Fever’s win over the Chicago Sky on Sunday, June 16.

Reese received a screaming message to call.

The mistake sparked another firestorm on social media, with many calling for Reiss to take a hit. Reese and Clark have history, as their colleges have faced each other in each of the last two NCAA tournaments.

Reese came under fire on social media with many claiming she was mocking Clark and Iowa, while others attributed it to the regular celebration that is normal on the field.

But Clark didn’t think Reese deserved the heat.

“I don’t think Angle should be criticized at all,” Clark said in an interview with ESPN. “No matter how things go, she should never be criticized for what she did. I’m just someone who competes, and I competed. I think everyone knew there was going to be a little trash talking. It’s not just me and Angel.”

Angel Reese (right) and Caitlin Clark have played each other in each of the last two NCAA tournaments. Reese and LSU won the championship game in 2023, while Clark and Iowa got revenge in the Elite Eight this year.

As physical contact occurred this time, more heat was thrown at Reese. Former NFL quarterback and Fox broadcaster Matt Leinart even posted on X that he believes Reese should be suspended.

Angel Reyes must be stopped. a period. Not good for the game.

Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy also called out Reese and Heaven. Chindi Carter is also on Sky, and the hip check she performed on Clarke during a game two weeks ago has become the biggest clue for those trying to protect Clarke.

    – Dave Portnoy (@stoolpresidente) June 16, 2024

Leinart and Kuzma received a lot of responses to their posts, and Portnoy even received a response from NBA veteran Kyle Kuzma who called him a “bozo” and noted that Reiss made a “basketball game.”

BOZO This is a basketball game.

    – Autumn (@kylekuzma) June 16, 2024

ESPN’s “First Take” discussed the play on Monday, June 17, and both Stephen A. Smith and Andrea Carter even though it was a basketball game as well.

    More women’s basketball:

    • All aspects of Caitlin Clark’s jealous WNBA narrative
    • The harsh truth behind the WNBA’s shockingly low contracts
    • The WNBA commissioner has big plans for the league’s upcoming media rights deal

Smith noted that this play happens frequently in the NBA, and that it would be described as a blatant play in the men’s professional league.

From Smith’s perspective, Russell Westbrook took a similar, and perhaps stronger and more deliberate, hit to Josh Green’s head during the first round of the 2024 NBA playoffs that also took a blatant hit.

Clark, the “victim” of the hit, said after the match that she knew Reese’s injury was not malicious.

“It’s just part of basketball,” Clark said. “It is what it is. [Reese’s] Try to play the ball and get the block. But yes, it happens.”
