detained Binance CEO Tigran Gambarian pleaded with a prison guard for help as he entered the courtroom, describing the ongoing legal debacle with Nigerian authorities as a “show.”
On September 2, a video was posted on X showing Gambarian limping on one leg and leaning on a single crutch as he tried to walk into the courtroom. Gambarian repeatedly reached for the arm of the guard accompanying him to help him walk. Each time, a prison official pulled his arm away.
Binance CEO suffers from a herniated disc
Gambarian has been in Nigerian custody since February, suffering from a herniated disc and bouts of pneumonia, tonsillitis and malaria.

On his way to the courtroom, the Binance CEO turned to a group of onlookers and said that the prison guard had been “ordered not to help me.” Gambarian then questioned why he couldn’t get to a wheelchair due to his herniated disc and asked the prison guard, “Why are you doing this to me?”
Lawyers Don’t Get Access to Binance Exec
Gambarian’s lawyers say they have been unable to meet with him to prepare for trial. His legal counsel has also filed a new release request on medical grounds and denied him access to his client.
But prosecutors at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission rejected the application, claiming that Gambarian was not sick and had refused prior treatment offered to him.
During his court appearance yesterday, Binance The executive pleaded with the judge that he was not receiving proper medical treatment in prison. Gambarian also raised the issue of his lawyer not being allowed to see him.
The judge then ordered that Gambarian be allowed to use a wheelchair, and said he would continue to hear his bail application when the trial resumes tomorrow.
