Metamask developer Consensys has unveiled the Linea Association, a Swiss-based non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the decentralization of Layer-2 zkEVM Linea.
Line, A Layer 2 A zero-knowledge Ethereum Virtual Machine toolkit developed by Consensuscreated the Linea Association at a Devcon event in Bangkok, Thailand, on November 13.
According to Linnea blogpostThe Linea Association is described as an independent Swiss non-profit organization dedicated to developing decentralized, open source technology and managing the Linea ecosystem.
One of the main features driven by the Linea Association is the token holder Judgment. That’s why the organization plans to launch its native token, LINEA, by the end of the first quarter of 2025. The LINEA token will be used by its holders to participate in governance.
Although no specific roadmap was provided, the blog post indicates that there will be a token creation event to launch LINEA tokens to contributors to the ecosystem. The Linea Association will provide more details regarding the token’s design, economics, and utility, but has hinted that LINEA may serve as more than just a governance token over time.
The Swiss association will give token holders the ability to make decisions on certain aspects within the organization, including Linea’s intellectual property and a treasury to support its mission.
The organization will consist of a Board of Directors and General Assembly staff reporting to an Executive Director and a nominal governance body.
Decentralization is at the core of Linea’s vision, said Linea founder and Linea Association board member, Nicola Liuchan. Therefore, he believes that Linnea should be openly owned and governed by the community rather than by a central rule.
“The creation of the Linea Association ensures that the future of the protocol lies in the hands of its community, enabling users and developers to collaboratively and transparently shape its path,” Liuchun said.
He explained that the organization’s primary mission is to “empower the world to live on-chain,” which will be supported by the Ethereum ecosystem.Ethereum) technicians, builders and users.
Joseph Lubin, CEO of Consensys, stressed that the formation of the independent NGO Linea is in line with Consensys’ vision of creating a networked nation powered by a decentralized global economy.
“Through initiatives like Linea, we are building the foundation for an open, collaborative, and censorship-resistant world, where individuals and communities globally can participate fully and securely,” Lubin said.
Since its launch in August 2023, Linea has grown to become the fastest growing zkEVM platform on Ethereum, hosting over 230 million transactions in less than 15 months. Linea is currently in the first phase of decentralization Road map Which consists of five stages, from stage 0 to stage 4.
