DevCon 1 will be held in London from November 9 to 13, just over a hundred days since the launch of the Ethereum network. Over the past months, we have seen the network grow from a few hundred nodes starting on that exciting, special night to a very large, globally spread stable platform with thousands of developers pushing the decentralization revolution that motivates and inspires us.
DevCon will have three basic categories of topics:
- Basic research and basic protocols: Including proof of stake, scalability, networking protocols, privacy and zero-knowledge proofs, as well as some of the mathematical aspects of decentralized protocols such as stablecoins, prediction markets and reputation systems. This segment will be designed to be similar to an academic conference, in some ways in spirit Cryptoeconomics.
- Dab development: Focus on the practical challenges of developing applications on top of the Ethereum platform and effective design patterns to improve security, efficiency, developer time, and user experience. This part will be designed to be similar to the Programming Language Developer Agreement, for example. http://nodejsconf.it/
- Industrial and social impacts: Including IoT, finance, government, supply chain traceability, authentication, identity and reputation. This part will be designed to attract industry and general audiences, especially those from outside the Ethereum ecosystem who come with the aim of understanding its features and how their projects can benefit from using the technology, as well as other interested parties such as decision makers and investors.
The conference will be held over 5 days from November 9 to 13 in London Gibson Hall. The first half of the week will focus on research and development of decentralized applications, and the second half of the week will focus on industry and social impacts. We will also discuss how development continues now that the platform has launched, as well as the future direction of the organization as an organisation. We hope that over the course of the week you will be able to develop the understanding and make the connections you need to make the most of the opportunities that Ethereum has to offer.
There will be keynotes from several members of the core development team, updating you on progress and some exciting new projects, and where possible we will endeavor to stream the event live so that people who couldn’t attend can attend too.
One of the features of the week will be a focus on community-produced decentralized applications – a showcase, if you will, of all the great things happening on the Ethereum platform. Expect talks from development teams sharing what they’ve learned, and detailed conversations about new businesses and business models enabled by the Ethereum platform. If you think you have something you’d like to share, please feel free to contact us at info@ethereum.org.
A website will soon be published on http://devcon.ethereum.org We will add details on pricing, schedule, sponsorship, etc. as information becomes available.
