When I started promoting Bitcoin and blockchain technology in 2012, it was difficult to convince my parents. There were common doubts and typical responses such as “What supports it?” and “What can be done with it?” and “What is encryption?” At the time, my idea wasn’t refined and the learning tools weren’t quite mature yet… but honestly, I think the biggest reason it doesn’t get it is because it doesn’t. It is not technical and does not adopt early technology.
I insisted carefully and he finally came. Before the end of 2012, he had acquired a large amount of coins, and with the price rising by many multiples, I secured more and more future opportunities that might arise.
Now he didn’t decide to buy bitcoins because he ended up understanding the technology, in fact, I’m still not sure years later whether he understood much of the nitty-gritty of bitcoin or just wrapped his head around the potential implications blockchain technology provides. When Ethereum came along, he certainly didn’t understand the concept and why I decided to abandon everything in late 2013 and risk significant capital to fund the project with then-co-founders Vitalik, Mihai, Charles, and eventually the rest of the company. Founding teamas it exists today.
Bitcoin is difficult to explain, while Ethereum is a few notches ahead of it. It’s not rocket science but it sure seems like it to a lot of people. Unheard of terms like as Smart contracts, Smart featureor Dabs It can seem daunting to fans. Even terms or words are becoming more common such as “Cryptocurrency“or”Distributed ledger system“It can still be unfamiliar to many. Let’s face it. This technology is not easy for most to understand and messaging needs to be constantly improved and crafted for this to change.
It is true that the majority of the current focus and goal of Ethereum is to put tools in the hands of developers and show them how they can create products that end users will ultimately appreciate. Less time and resources have been spent explaining Ethereum to end consumers, enterprises, and institutions.
With weekly announcements of “blockchain integrations” (see nasdaq, IBM, Government of Honduras and countless others) and Friendly legislative proposals From countries like Canada, there is a clear growing interest from many sectors and as more integration projects appear in the news, more and more interest is being sparked from organizations that do not want to be left behind.
Explain complex ideas
So how can we communicate Ethereum ideas, and complex ideas in general, to the general public? Well, whether it’s a company trying to communicate new innovations to investors, or an educator teaching a difficult subject in a short period of time, The problem is how do you take an abundance of mostly technical information, simplify it, and present it effectively if it’s in an engaging and informative way?
One answer is graphs. Here are some of the benefits of this method
- Infographics are more attractive than printed words because they usually combine images, colors, and content that naturally appeal to the eye and appeal to those with short attention spans.
- Infographics can be shared widely across the web using embed code and are ideal for sharing on social networks
- If it is visually attractive with consistent colors and shapes. Messages and logo They provide an effective means of brand awareness
Below is the concept of the first public Ethereum infographic designed for the masses. I’ll let it speak for itself and welcome comments and questions about why we worded the message the way we did or why certain terms or ideas were left out. Feel free to share this and help spread the message across the web.
This is the first of a few suggested charts. The next part will focus more on use cases for Ethereum in various sectors, and then focus on more technical ones.
I miss Father’s Day with my dad (and my brother’s first Father’s Day) to be in Switzerland working on Ethereum. However, I saw my father this week and felt a certain sense of accomplishment when he told me after showing him the chart: “I finally have an idea of what Ethereum is and its potential. Now what’s all this talk about Bitcoin?”
Happy Father’s Day to all Ethereum Dads
