(Reuters) – Ilya Sutskever, co-founder and former chief scientist of ChatGPT maker OpenAI, said on Wednesday that he will found a new artificial intelligence company.
The company is focused on creating a safe environment for AI at a time when some of the largest technology companies are looking to take control of the generative AI boom.
The company is called Safe Superintelligence, and is described on its website as an American company with offices in Palo Alto and Tel Aviv. Sutskever made the announcement revealing that he would be starting the company with a post on X.
“Our single focus means we are not distracted by administrative overhead or product cycles, and our business model means that safety, security and progress are all insulated from short-term commercial pressures,” the post read.
Sutskever is joined by former OpenAI researcher Daniel Levy and Daniel Gross, co-founder of Cue and former AI leader at Apple (NASDAQ:) as co-founders of Safe Superintelligence.
Sutskever left Microsoft-backed OpenAI in May after playing a key role in the ousting and rehiring of CEO Sam Altman in November last year. Sutskever was removed from the company’s board of directors after Altman’s return.
