(Reuters) – European stocks opened higher on Wednesday, with industrial and technology stocks among the biggest gainers, while the focus remained on important US inflation data and the French elections scheduled for later in the week.
The European index rose 0.4 percent by 0712 GMT.
Industrial stocks rose 0.6%, helped by Germany’s DHL (NYSE:DHL) jumping 2.5% after U.S. peer FedEx (NYSE:FEDEX) forecast fiscal 2025 earnings above analysts’ estimates.
The technology sub-index advanced nearly 1%, tracking Wall Street’s overnight rise. [.N]
Investors are awaiting the release of US inflation data, which may play a key role in gauging the Federal Reserve’s interest rate expectations. Consumer price data from France, Spain and Italy are also scheduled to be released this week.
The first round of the French parliamentary elections will also be on investors’ radar.
