The Las Vegas Strip has hosted major events over the years featuring top rock, pop, jazz, country and R&B artists as well as other entertainment such as comedians, magicians and illusionists.
Entertainment on the Strip has evolved over the years from the early years in the 1940s with pianist Liberace, to big names like Nat “King” Cole and Ella Fitzgerald in the 1950s, Frank Sinatra and the Rat Pack in the 1960s, and of course, Elvis Presley at the International Hotel starting in 1969.

Elvis set a record with 636 sold-out shows off the Strip at the International Hotel, which was renamed the Las Vegas Hilton in the early 1970s. His record was broken in September 2023 by 1970s pop singer Barry Manilow, who began his residency at the International Theater at Westgate Las Vegas (formerly the International Hotel and Hilton) in February 2005 and is scheduled to perform through December 14, 2024.
Manilow is joined by other Vegas headliners on the Strip such as ’70s teen idol Donny Osmond, who performs at Harrah’s Las Vegas Showroom through November 14, 2024, and Mr. Las Vegas Wayne Newton, who performs at Flamingo’s Bugsy’s Cabaret Showroom through December 30, 2024.
The development of the Las Vegas Strip has brought a variety of singers and bands to the Strip for residencies. Superstar rock band U2 opened the Sphere Entertainment extravaganza (SPHR) Sphere at the Venetian Resort on September 29, 2023, followed by a couple of jam bands, Phish and then Dead & Company. Next up for the Sphere are mega rock band The Eagles who will play 12 shows from September 20th until November 9th.

The Venetian Theater at The Venetian Las Vegas hosted classic New Wave band The B-52s for five shows in April, and now, Drai’s Nightclub at Caesars Entertainment’s The Cromwell will bring superstar rapper Lil Wayne for a residency on June 29 with a second show scheduled for July 12 in Zouk Las Vegas at Resorts World Las Vegas.
Finally, an alternative rock icon brings his iconic show back to the Strip for another quick residency.
Morrissey returns to the Las Vegas Strip for a residency
Sad, haunting and depressing 80s rock star Morrissey returns to the Las Vegas Strip for a new residency at the House of Blues at the MGM International Resorts. (MGM) The singer revealed in an Instagram post that her concert at the Mandalay Bay Resort will take place on July 26 and 27 and August 1 and 2. Tickets are on sale through Livenation.com and range from general admission tickets for $119.95 including fees before taxes to $889 for official Platinum seats.

The “Every Day Like Sunday” singer last played the tape for five shows at his July 2022 “Viva Moz Vegas” residency at Caesars Entertainment’s (Czechoslovakia) The Colosseum at Caesar’s Palace. Prior to those shows in Vegas, Moz opened his five-show residency at the Colosseum in August and September 2021 after canceling five nights in June and July 2020 due to the COVID pandemic.
Morrissey began his career as the front man of the alternative rock band The Smiths in the 1980s, with songs such as “Girlfriend in a Coma” and “How Short Is Now?” The Smiths broke up in 1987, and Morrissey began his solo career in 1988. The dark and gloomy artist has been known for making controversial comments over the years about conservative politics, racial issues and high-profile sex offenders. However, his concerts continue to sell out, and his Las Vegas Strip shows are no different with tickets selling out quickly.
