Tonight’s tracking poll by Le Figaro paints an even worse picture for Emmanuel Macron’s central coalition, with voters split between left and right. The far right now has 36% of the vote and the left-wing Popular Front has 29.5%. Macron’s camp has lost 1.5% since the elections held on Thursday, and is stable at 20.5%.
French stocks have hit 11-day highs and the euro has stabilized, so it’s tempting to think it’s all priced in. Bigger movements may come after the elections.
Remember, these are parliamentary elections, and Macron has pledged to remain president until his term ends in three years.
to update: A second Harris poll showed Macron’s camp declining by one percentage point.
