Ethereum is a living entity, distributed across time and space, and accessible through our screens and communication devices. What gives it life are the countless human relationships that have become intertwined with the roots, branches and leaves of the Ethereum state tree. This single tree symbolizes enormous value, digital ownership, and decentralized utility – not an insignificant slice of human activity.
But the humans who currently give life to Ethereum are not everyone Humans – Many gaps between cultures, nationalities and classes must be bridged. We believe the visions are there. We believe that those who understand the failure of coordination and are working against it can see a glimmer of hope. They have levers with which they intend to move the world, and Ethereum could be their fulcrum. Fellowship
We believe that Ethereum can be used to improve the lives of billions of people. But we need more than just technology – we need new ways of thinking about how humans interact with each other and their environment. We need new stories to tell, new visions for a better future, and new ways to express our values in code.
The Ethereum Foundation’s Next Billion Fellowship is a search for stories: stories that inspire us to focus on what matters, to find balance and fairness in the way we solve our problems, and to delve deeper into the mysteries of human cooperation. .
We are looking for change makers, visionaries and realists. We look for stories that represent the best of ourselves, to better imagine a world in which we use the tools at our disposal, roll up our sleeves, and begin the long, hard work of pulling the world out of its coordination death spiral.
It’s okay to start with experiments, pilots, and research. Stories of flawed hypotheses, underestimated challenges, and misaligned incentives are extraordinarily valuable in the search for new systems of change. We are only at the beginning of a very long journey into uncharted territory – mapping is a difficult and worthwhile endeavour.
Fellows can work as individuals, or as part of a larger organization. Maybe some colleagues are building directly, Design and test new technologies that solve old problems. Others may have Particular interest in a specific humanitarian contextResearch and share their findings with other creators in the Ethereum community to help them design better solutions. There are no strict requirements for the Next Billion Fellowship except one: seriousness.
Next Billion Fellows must be on a personal mission. The Fellowship is neither the beginning nor the end of their journey, but it may provide some support that enables the Fellow to move closer to ambitious goals. Whatever the project, whoever the colleague, the endeavor must be rooted in the interest of the common good.

The third cohort of the Next Billion Fellowship will begin in late June 2023.
