What began at midnight on February 1, 2014, is coming to an end: we are pleased to announce the release of the ninth and final part of the Ethereum Proof of Concept series. We invite the community to participate in the ongoing Proof-of-Concept IX testnet in our current release, Olympic, Available now.

The purpose of Olympic is to reward people who try to test the limits of the Ethereum blockchain during the pre-release period, flooding the network with transactions and doing crazy things with the state, so we can see how the network holds up under the high bar. load levels. Meanwhile, application developers, data providers, exchanges, and users are encouraged to develop, deploy on the testnet, and run nodes — and if you have multiple VPS, spin up as many nodes as possible.

Olympic will have a prize pool of up to 25,000 Ether. There will be four categories of prizes plus a grand prize for the first person to create a large fork on the testnet.

The four categories of the award will be: Transaction activity, Use a virtual machine, Mining prowess And Public punishment. Each category will include a main prize of 2,500 Ether, as well as one or more smaller prizes of 100-1000 Ether and possibly small rewards of 0.1-5 Ether just for participating. Each category will be judged by Vitalik, Gavin, and Jeff, likely with significant assistance from automated blockchain analysis tools. In addition to Ethereum, like the bounty program, all prize winners have the right to have their names immortalized in the Ethereum Genesis block. Please note that to be considered for a prize, send an email describing the claim to olympic@ethereum.org.

This is also the final stage of the Ethereum development process before Frontier is released, as the network has currently proven to be very stable at its current size of 20-100 nodes, all major clients have agreed to consensus and we are approaching a code freeze awaiting testing and auditing of inputs. It is expected to last approximately 14 days, although we reserve the right to shorten or lengthen it based on technical considerations. When we feel we are ready, we will provide a 48-hour countdown to the launch of Frontier 1.0.

Binaries and source are available here: https://github.com/ethereum/go-ethereum/releases/tag/v0.9.18

Frontier’s work in progress guide is available here: http://ethereum.gitbooks.io/frontier-guide/

    Transaction activity

This includes activity related to sending and receiving transactions. Examples of things we may reward include:

    • The account sending the largest total number of transactions
    • The account that contributes the highest total gas usage
    • The account that receives the largest total number of transactions
    • The account that contributes the highest inflation (as measured in bytes) to the blockchain in terms of the contents of the transaction experience
    • The account with the lowest address (in terms of lexical order or numerical representation; the two are equivalent) that sends at least one transaction
    • Two accounts that send at least one transaction and whose addresses are closest to each other

    Use a virtual machine

This includes activity related to the use of the virtual machine. Examples of things we may reward include:

    • The account that makes the most calls for any opcode
    • The account that makes the largest number of calls to any opcode during a single transaction
    • The account that sends the single transaction that takes the longest for a particular customer to process
    • The account that sends the single transaction with the highest percentage of execution time per unit of gas consumed
    • The account that receives the largest total number of messages
    • The calculation that returns the highest total amount of gas usage
    • The calculation that creates the contract with the lowest address (in terms of lexical order or numerical representation, the two are equivalent)
    • The account that sends the transaction with the largest RLP encrypted receipt (measured in bytes).
    • The account that produces the largest number of transactions whose bloom is a prime (distinct) number.
    • A contract constructor containing, for example, a Sudoku solution, takes an array of 81 values as input and outputs an array of 81 values corresponding to a solved Sudoku

    Mining prowess

This includes mining-related activities; Miners will be identified by their Coinbase address. Examples of things we may reward include:

    • The miner that produces the largest block on the main chain (measured in bytes)
    • The miner that contributes the largest total number of bytes of block data to the main chain
    • The miner who mines the largest number of blocks in a row
    • The miner that includes the most transactions
    • The miner that produces the block that takes the longest amount of time for a particular customer to process

    Public punishment

This includes messing with the state in crazy ways, and getting contracts to do crazy things. Examples of things we may reward include:

    • The sender/miner of the transaction/block that adds the largest number of items to the contract’s storage
    • Larger token contract creator (externally owned accounts only)
    • Contract builder with the most full items in stock
    • The constructor of the contract containing the key/value pair with the highest depth of the Merkel tree (i.e. the highest number of hash lookups before arriving at the value)
    • A contract creator who commits suicide while having the most full items in stock
    • The constructor of the contract that performs the largest number of successive storage updates such that the storage root at each step is a prime number.

Note that the above categories are by no means an exhaustive list of items eligible for prizes. If you do anything outside of the above that you feel deserves attention, please email us.

    Grand prize

The grand prize of at least 5,000 Ether will be shared between miners who manage to create a large fork between Go and C++ clients. The fork must be on the main chain; One client must accept the block while the other client must reject it. Smaller rewards may also be available for forks between Go/C++ and Python.

Good luck, we look forward to seeing and hearing what you all come up with!
