An implementation error in the navigation client causes a steady increase in difficulty independent of hash power.
Affected configurations: everyone Go to client versions v1.0.x and v1.1.x and release and develop branches. The bug was introduced in the latest update and was released through a commit https://github.com/ethereum/go-ethereum/commit/7324176f702a77fc331bf16a968d2eb4bccce021 that entered the affected client versions. All miners using the previously mentioned versions are affected and are advised to update as soon as possible.
Probability: high
Danger: Mediation
impact: An increase in block time will result in a massive increase in difficulty
details: A bug in the go client results in a steady increase in difficulty in the next block, as the timestamp in the new block = timestamp + 1 of the old block, regardless of the actual time, when mined. This results in increased difficulty independent of hash power
Effects on the expected depth of chain reorganization: no one
Proposed temporary solution: no one
Remedial action taken by Ethereum: Providing hotfixes as follows:
If using PPA: sudo apt-get-update then sudo apt-get-promotion
If using syrup: Update the drink then Drink reinstall ethereum
If using a Windows binary: Download the updated binary from a file Version page
If you are building from source: Pull gate Followed by Make a geth (Please use master branch 587669215b878566c4a7b91fbf88a6fd2ec4f46a)
