PARIS (Reuters) – Airbus faces new pressure to increase production of passenger planes in the near term due to shortages of spare parts and labour, industry sources said on Thursday.
It was not immediately clear whether the slowdown would jeopardize 2024 delivery targets because deliveries lag behind production decisions by several months, but the sources said assembly of dozens of planes could be delayed in the second half.
An Airbus spokesman referred to the group’s latest quarterly results, in which it reiterated a target of delivering 800 aircraft by 2024, and declined to comment further.
The world’s largest aircraft maker plans to increase production by about 50% to 75 narrow-body aircraft per month in 2026. Sources said it hopes any delay can be made up in time to achieve the goal in the medium term.
