These are just some of the most popular competitions we’ve had the privilege of watching in recent years.

But if you work in retail, you’ll probably be a little more interested in Walmart (And die) Versus Amazon (Amzn) which proved to be a confrontation for the ages.
They are in constant and relentless pursuit of each other. Amazon continues to make strides in faster shipments via traditional methods, and Walmart has been particularly vocal about that Drone delivery capabilities, which she says are advancing every day.
Both retailers want a larger slice of market share And willing to go to great lengths to get it. As of late 2023, Amazon held more than 37% of the U.S. online retail market share, while Walmart held more than 6%. On the physical side, Walmart easily takes the cake, dwarfing Amazon’s relatively minor in-person presence.
Amazon is firmly ahead when it comes to e-commerce, but with more than 10,000 Walmart store locations, it has ambitions to catch up — and fast.
Walmart and Amazon are one-upping each other
For us onlookers (and consumers), the competition between Amazon and Walmart is a joy to watch.
When Amazon steps up Delivery speed and size, Beats Walmart That’s in terms of total sales. It is the beauty of the free market that enables competition to intensify and Consumer experience to improve.

Part of this fight means increasing efforts to attract more new customers and delight them. Both giants offer a paid membership program, which is a bit of a goldmine for retailers because it offers consistent, recurring revenue.
Amazon Prime, which costs $139 per year, offers:
- Free shipping and returns, often within 2-day or next day on eligible items
- Access to Prime Video streaming
- Save at Whole Foods Market
- Access to the Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Signature Card
- Access to Amazon Fresh grocery stores
- Try before you buy shopping
- Amazon photo storage
Walmart+, the answer to Amazon Prime, offers different (but competitive) perks:
- Cheaper, at $98 per year
- Free delivery to store
- Free shipping and returns on eligible items
- Saving fuel at Exxon, Mobil, Walmart and Murphy gas stations
- Paramount+ streaming subscription included
- Limited vehicle maintenance at Walmart Auto Care Centers
- Cash back on selected travel expenses
- Pricing is available to members only during select promotions, such as Black Friday
- Mobile shopping in store
Walmart is launching early Prime Day savings
Prime still beats Walmart+. About 200 million shoppers subscribe to Prime, while about 59 million have Walmart+.
But that doesn’t stop Walmart from doing everything it can to win more customers.

The retailer on Monday launched its early version of Amazon Prime Days, called Walmart+week, featuring an impressive list of savings and promotions to entice customers to spend early.
Some of these include:
- Double discounts on fuel at Exxon and Mobil gas stations
- Get up to 20% Walmart Cash back on flights, hotels, car rentals, and other activities booked through Walmart+ Travel
- Free express delivery in less than 2 hours, which usually costs $10
- Three free months of Walmart+ InHome home delivery
- Mystery show on June 20
The savings event — the second of its kind since its inception last year — began at noon ET on June 17 and runs through June 23. It’s set to launch strategically ahead of Amazon Prime Days, which typically lasts for two days in early July and promises to offer similarly deep discounts and savings to members.
Amazon said it will soon announce when its 2024 Prime Days event will be held.
